Many of America’s children are hurting in very
deep and real ways. We see this daily at our
campus. Our students come to us from a variety of difficult
backgrounds. Some come from single-parent homes. Others have
parents who are substance abusers and are not providing the
guidance and support these young people need. Some students
have absentee parents, due to a jail sentence or selfish
irresponsibility, and are being raised by a relative, such as
a grandparent. No matter what the situation might be, our
students desperately need the sure foundation of discipline
and love that is not available at home.
These young people are all hurting and share
many common disadvantages, including: overwhelming feelings of
anger, fear of abandonment, lack of discipline, disrespect of
authority figures, feelings of unworthiness, sense of academic
inferiority, or one or more learning disabilities.
Until these young people know that God loves them
and are taught how to overcome these disadvantages, they will
grow up perpetuating the cycle of dysfunction and despair. This scenario is detrimental to them
personally and to society as well. Alarmingly, the
numbers of these hurting children seem to be growing every year
and include children of younger and younger ages.
Our commitment to these
young people has remained the same for decades... to create a
warm and nourishing environment reflecting the values of a
Christian family and a Christ centered education, a powerful
combination that can bring about a radical change of life.
