a Treasure on the Trace |
Ninety miles north of Jackson, MS is a timeless treasure tucked
into the dense forest and gently rolling meadows which frame the
Natchez Trace. Local legends abound of a colorful past
containing generals, pirates, explorers, Indians, bootleggers
and buried gold. The real French Camp Story is not about a
place, but about the people. The pioneering spirit
and resourcefulness of the first settlers carved a way of
life from the abundant Mississippi wilderness. Their
spiritual foundation provided necessary values and morals that shaped
their relationships with each other. Their community-wide
commitment to the education (French
Camp Academy) and spiritual development of their children
provide the foundation for a school which was born of humble
beginnings in the nineteenth century, and which will be securely
guided by the hand of God into the 21st century.

| A balm for
the soul |
 French
Camp, MS is a balm for the soul of mankind. Those who
venture off the Natchez Trace are welcomed with a genuine
warmth. Those who stay awhile rarely leave without being
touched in some small way. Those who leave always seem to
take a small part of French Camp tucked away in their
hearts...and they leave knowing that there will always be
a place that they can call home. French Camp
is a place where neighbors still care for each other like
family, and you seldom find a locked
door. It is a place where a child has the opportunity
to grow and to experience the true joy of being
a child, where he
can concentrate on education and values rather than violence
and survival. It is a place where the people
work hard during the week and sing hymns of praise in the white
frame churches
on Sunday morning. The true legacy of this small, north
central Mississippi town can only be explained by the people's
unwavering faith in God, their unselfish love of their fellow
man, and their multi-generational commitment to education. It is
this legacy which has shaped and molded the lives of so many -
and which reaches out with strong and gentle hands to touch the
future.
